The document outlines specific measures to develop a more sustainable, safe, and accessible urban mobility system tailored to the municipality’s needs.

The plan’s main goal is to improve the quality of urban infrastructure by promoting walking and alternative modes of transportation, including public transit.

The document includes measures to develop infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists and to improve safety in public spaces.

It was developed by the General Directorate of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Land Relations as part of the European CityWalk 2.0 project, funded by the European Union.

The local action plan for ensuring more environmentally friendly mobility in the municipality of Chișinău complements the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).

As a reminder, the SUMP was approved on March 23, 2026. The document provides for the development of a mobility system that combines public transportation with walking and cycling.

The plan includes measures to improve infrastructure—such as the construction of bike lanes and safe pedestrian zones. It also includes the implementation of solutions that reduce the need for private cars (encouraging the use of bicycles or public transportation through fare structures).

This also includes smart traffic lights, traffic monitoring systems, and route-planning apps. It further involves expanding eco-friendly electric transportation(trolleybuses, buses running on alternative fuels), as well as creating conditions for car-sharing.
