The participants in the dialogue identified the following as priority areas for cooperation: increasing the throughput capacity of Danube ports; developing rail, road, and border infrastructure, reducing the time required for customs and border procedures, and improving coordination among transportation, customs, and border services. Special attention was given to expanding transit opportunities for Ukrainian agricultural products and attracting European funding to modernize infrastructure as part of the “Routes of Solidarity” initiative and the TEN-T network, according to Kommersant Ukrainskyi.
First Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Serhiy Derkach noted that the Danube route should ensure the stable movement of Ukrainian cargo even amid constant security threats. According to him, the common goal of Ukraine and its partners “is to eliminate bottlenecks, increase the throughput capacity of ports and border crossing points, and create predictable conditions for international transport.”
Following a recent meeting, the parties agreed to continue coordinating efforts to develop the Danube Logistics Cluster and integrate Ukraine’s transportation system into the European network. This initiative complements a series of international consultations launched to identify alternative export routes following restrictions on operations at the ports of Greater Odesa.
As Logos Press previously reported, the Ukrainian state-owned railway company “Ukrzaliznytsia” announced the day before that it had held a series of joint meetings on this topic with representatives of relevant agencies from neighboring countries.
Romania has already increased the throughput capacity of the grain terminal at the Port of Constanța
In this context, it is worth noting that the expansion of the Canopus grain terminal at the Port of Constanța has been completed. Its simultaneous grain storage capacity has been increased from 110,000 to 180,000 metric tons. This was reported by World Grain, citing the transportation and logistics company TTS.
The new complex will receive grain—from both barges and trucks—through two unloading points, each with a capacity of 400 metric tons per hour. Two existing ship loaders, each with a capacity of 800 metric tons per hour, will be used to load the grain onto seagoing vessels.
The investment project cost €23 million. It was implemented by Canopus Star SRL Constanța—a joint venture between TTS and Cargill Agricultura SRL that specializes in the transshipment of agricultural products.
