30 million euros will be allocated for the renovation of student dormitories

Approximately 30 million euros will be allocated for the major renovation of 19 student dormitories across the country by 2030. Thanks to these investments, the plan is to modernize about 5,000 student housing units, said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun.

The first completed project was the dormitory at the Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University in Chisinau. Starting September 1, more than 200 students will have the opportunity to live in the renovated dormitory, which offers modern amenities.

The renovation of the building cost 1.8 million euros and was carried out with support from the World Bank as part of the “Higher Education in Moldova” project, implemented by the relevant ministry.

The dormitory was modernized to European standards and equipped with new furniture and modern amenities. Students will have access to apartment-style rooms with private bathrooms and kitchens. The building has also been adapted for people with disabilities: ramps and a vertical lift have been installed, and special rooms have been equipped.

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun noted that implementing the project was a complex process, and that the project team and university leadership made the primary contributions to its completion.

“The process was not easy. Our role in this system, from a certain perspective, is more modest: we provide financial resources, but the bulk of the work falls on the project team and, of course, to an even greater extent, on the university team. In total, the Ministry of Education and Research has 62 student dormitories in its portfolio. By 2029–2030, we plan to completely renovate 19 of them. From a financial standpoint, we have already allocated 30 million euros for these renovation projects,” Perciun stated.
