The document establishes uniform legal rules for production companies that work on television projects or projects for streaming platforms in collaboration with partners from other European countries.
Under the terms of the agreement, series produced as part of international co-productions will be granted national production status in the Republic of Moldova. This will allow local producers to access government funding, tax incentives, and other support mechanisms provided for by national legislation on the same terms as those applicable to exclusively domestic projects.
According to Marcea Nistor, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, jointly produced projects will have the same legal status and enjoy the same funding opportunities as domestic films and TV series. This will reduce financial risks for local creators and simplify access to European funding sources.
Moldova’s inclusion in this European production network will streamline bureaucratic procedures: organizing filming crews’ trips abroad and transporting technical equipment will become significantly easier. The rules provide for simplified procedures for obtaining visas and work permits for foreign technical and creative professionals, as well as a simplified customs regime for the temporary import of filming equipment.
The initiative is directly linked to the Republic of Moldova’s plan to join the European “Eurimages” fund—the main mechanism for financial support of the film industry in the European Union.
