Consequently, the innovation and tech entrepreneurship ecosystem in the Republic of Moldova is taking a significant step forward, and the initiatives being launched will cover all stages of business development: from idea and incubation to acceleration, investment readiness and external validation.
The grants were awarded as part of the event ‘Strengthening the start-up support ecosystem in Moldova through EU funding’, organised under the EU4Innovation East project, funded by the European Union, co-funded by the French Government and implemented by Expertise France. Six organisations were selected following a rigorous selection process, and the organisations that received grant certificates include the following:
- ATIC (National Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies) is implementing the ‘ASCEND’ programme to train young people and ICT professionals, with the aim of creating at least 20 prototypes and attracting investment of €100,000.
- Dreamups is implementing the ‘Dreamups Startup Growth Pipeline’ initiative, offering a comprehensive pathway from idea to scaling through incubation, acceleration and product management training programmes.
- As part of the ‘IGNITE’ project, Startup Moldova aims to facilitate start-ups’ access to the EU market by providing expansion grants and launching the startup.md platform to centralise more than 300 ecosystem participants.
- Technovator is implementing the ‘Moldova Deep Innovation Pathway’ project, focused on DeepTech solutions, and is also organising GigaHack 2026, providing micro-grants and pre-acceleration in Bucharest.
- XY Partners is coordinating the ‘MISSION 5: Healthcare and Technology’ programme, supporting innovation in healthcare through clinical validation, the implementation of at least five pilot projects in healthcare facilities, and investments of up to €200,000.
- YEP! Moldova presents ‘Startup Academy 101’ – a 12-month programme in which over 1,000 young people develop 50 minimum viable products (MVPs) and engage with experts from the diaspora.
The fastest-growing ecosystem in Europe
The technology sector in the Republic of Moldova is showing impressive growth, having been recognised as the fastest-growing ecosystem in Europe in the ‘StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Index’ (+91.9%).
There are currently over 300 technology start-ups operating in the country, and the viability of this sector is demonstrated by the international success of companies founded in Moldova, such as ‘Planable’ (a global content management platform for marketing teams) or ‘Fagura’ (a fintech company specialising in alternative financing and peer-to-peer refinancing).
Although the community is attracting increasing investment and generating significant revenue, the transition from the concept stage to international scaling still requires structured support mechanisms. The EU4Innovation East project directly addresses this issue by providing financial resources to develop long-term incubation and acceleration programmes.
