The transportation is carried out through the Halmeu and Diakovo border crossings, which ensures flexibility and reliability of communication between the ports of Romania and Ukraine. As part of the new logistics service, direct transportation of large-size cargo – rolled steel sheets – from the port of Constanta to Perechin station has already been performed.
For the transportation from Chop-Leski station to Constanta port, 60 ft long fitting platforms with wooden floor were sent from 1520 mm gauge baby carriages to 1435 mm gauge baby carriages.
A key advantage is the bogie changing technology: the platforms are shifted from wide to narrow gauge without overloading, saving resources.
“The new logistics route opens up additional opportunities to attract customers, which is especially important in the context of declining freight transportation volumes and industry revenues,” Ukrzaliznytsia said in a statement.
