This was announced by Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Bolea. According to him, once the process is complete, Chisinau Airport will manage two airfields—in Chisinau and Mărculești.

“We’ll be able to speak more specifically once the so-called master plan—the development plan—is finalized, since we need to understand what we’ll be investing in, what we’ll develop and maintain at Chisinau Airport, and what we’ll do at our airfield in Mărculești. But it’s already clear that there are many interested investors and foreign companies that want to come to the Republic of Moldova and invest specifically in Mărculești Airport, especially in the cargo transportation segment, which is of great importance,” Bolea stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister also provided details on the infrastructure of Mărculești Airport. The airfield occupies 280 hectares of state-owned land and has the status of a free economic zone. The site includes a customs post, a Border Police unit, a railway junction, and other necessary infrastructure that requires further development.

“I believe that in the coming years we will be able to transform the northern capital into an important economic center with great potential. Mărculești is located just over 100 kilometers from Ukraine, roughly the same distance from Romania and Chișinău. There are four-lane highways leading to the city from all directions. I am confident that the economic potential of this airport, which the government of the Republic of Moldova has recognized, will be fully realized,” Bolea concluded.
