The state invested 600 million lei in universities

To date, with the support of the World Bank, more than 600 million lei have been invested in the modernization of laboratories, research centers and university curricula.

The figure was announced during the event “Universities of the Future”, which took place during the third edition of the “Education Week” held in Chisinau.

The forum discussed the current situation in universities. They discussed strategic investments, as well as new directions in the development of higher education, which in the future will determine the national academic environment.

These efforts directly affect the attractiveness of universities. As follows from the message of Adriana Cazacu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science,

at the moment, the total number of students in the Moldovan higher education system is 62.9 thousand, which is 4 thousand more than last year.

Of these, 46.7 thousand students are enrolled in licentiate programs and 10.6 thousand in master’s programs. The official also noted that the enrollment of students remains structurally heterogeneous.

There are 6400 foreign students in Moldova”

The majority of applicants are enrolled in economics specialties, as well as in “Business”, while “Law” is still in the top of the list. At the same time, young people are much less interested in pedagogy. Even in spite of certain privileges and increase in salaries of teachers.

In addition, the national campaign “Study in Moldova” contributed to a 5% increase in the number of foreign students, which at the moment has reached more than 6400.

A new stage of financing the system is planned, with a budget of almost 38 million euros for the next four years, Adriana Cazacu said. The money is intended for the development of educational infrastructure, research and renovation of student dormitories.
