The statement by the Polish Foreign Ministry was a response to remarks made by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated that Ukraine could “sooner or later” lose its western territories, which, according to him, historically belonged to Poland, Hungary, and Romania. These remarks were made during a meeting with sailors of the Russian Navy on Navy Day.
The Polish Foreign Ministry called such claims “false and completely baseless speculation.” The ministry stated that Moscow’s claims regarding Poland’s alleged intentions to annex western regions of Ukraine are part of an information war and an attempt to sow discord among Kyiv’s allies. According to the Polish side, such statements are intended to divert the international community’s attention from the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, reports Strona Glowna.
The official statement also calls on the Russian authorities to renounce territorial claims against neighboring states. Polish diplomats emphasized that Warsaw’s position remains unchanged and is based on respect for international law and existing state borders.
