According to Ziarul Financiar, citing Romania’s Ministry of Finance, Prodlacta Brașov ranked tenth in the industry rankings at the end of 2025. The company’s revenue increased to 175 million RON (33.5 million euros) from 160 million RON (31 million euros) a year earlier. However, net profit fell from 3 million to 1 million RON (about 0.2 million euros).

Prodlacta’s return to the top ten was the result of a recovery following a difficult period. In 2023, the company faced financial difficulties and found itself on the brink of bankruptcy, which caused it to drop off the list of Romania’s largest dairy producers. In 2024, the company began its recovery: revenue grew by 19% to 159.6 million RON (approximately 32 million euros), compared to 133.2 million RON (27 million euros) a year earlier.

The company continued to invest in production development. In 2024, Prodlacta allocated nearly 1 million euros to modernization efforts, including the creation of milk collection centers and the installation of solar panels. By the end of the year, projects worth more than half a million euros remained in progress.

It should be noted that Prodlacta is part of the international JLC Group—Moldova’s largest dairy group. In addition to the facility in Brașov, JLC owns the Bucovina dairy plant in Suceava County, Romania. The international group also includes dairy plants in Moldova, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.

The Romanian Market Is in the Hands of Multinational Giants

According to the source, the Romanian dairy market is estimated at approximately 10 billion RON (about 1.9 billion euros) per year. In 2025, four companies exceeded the 1 billion RON (about 191 million euros) mark in annual revenue, compared to two the previous year.

Albalact, controlled by the French group Lactalis, remains the industry leader: its revenue exceeds 1.3 billion RON (about 249 million euros). Among the companies with turnover exceeding 1 billion lei were Danone România—1.24 billion lei (about 237 million euros), Hochland România—1.03 billion lei (about 197 million euros), and Fabrica de Lapte Brașov—1.02 billion lei (about 195 million euros).

According to the Romanian Trade Register, the country’s dairy industry comprises about 500 companies. However, Romania covers less than half of its domestic demand for raw milk and remains dependent on imports. The trade deficit in dairy products and cheese is estimated at approximately 800 million euros per year.
