This was reported by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation. The aim of the agreement is to strengthen ties on the basis of principles and mutual benefit, taking into account the domestic legislation and international obligations of both countries. Comments and proposals regarding the drafting of the agreement may be submitted until 17 November.

According to data from the Ministry of Economic Development, in July last year there were more than 1,140 enterprises with Italian capital operating in Moldova. Their investments in the authorised capital of Moldovan enterprises amounted to 1.8 billion lei. As a result, Italy became Moldova’s fourth-largest investor. Moldovan goods exported to the Italian market include textiles, electrical cables and wires, and wheat. In 2025, the value of exports amounted to 309 million euros.

Today, a Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and Capital and the Prevention of Tax Evasion is in force between Moldova and Italy, which has been applicable since 1 January 2012.

In Moldova, the convention applies to income tax and property tax. In Italy, it applies to personal income tax, corporation tax and regional tax on business activities.
