France is helping to reform the energy sector

Moldova will continue with reforms aimed at strengthening energy security and accelerating the transition to a ‘green’ economy, with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD). In this regard, the government has approved the start of negotiations on a new loan agreement worth €75 million as part of the ‘Green Energy Transition’ programme.

The funding will facilitate the implementation of the fourth phase of the Policy-Based Lending Programme, which runs from 2023 to 2028 with support from France via the AFD.

The reforms supported by this programme are aimed at modernising energy infrastructure, improving energy efficiency and developing renewable energy sources. At the same time, they aim to strengthen consumer protection and promote environmental and climate change policies in line with European Union standards.

Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the French Development Agency helps to support reforms and development projects. To date, the parties have signed six loan agreements totalling 205 million euros.
