The mayor criticized Alexandru Munteanu, stating that he was stepping down as prime minister due to personal grievances, whereas the management of public funds and public offices does not allow for such an attitude.

“There’s no place for personal grievances here. We’re talking about public funds, public offices, abuses of power, profiteering from influence, and much more. Report to Parliament! You can’t just walk away saying, ‘Look, I’m tired, I’m fed up, you’ve offended me, and I’m leaving.’ No! We must demand an extraordinary session of Parliament with a report on these eight months in office. And I ask the deputies to insist on this. Absolutely everyone. It shouldn’t be like this: “I came, got offended, grabbed my purse, my American passport—or whatever passport he has—and left.” A public report is required!” Cheban declared at an expanded meeting of the MAN Party’s National Council.

At the same time, Ion Cheban insists that the leadership of key government agencies—including the Information and Security Service, the National Anti-Corruption Center, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, and the Prosecutor General’s Office—also attend this public report. He demands that government agencies provide clear explanations regarding what is happening with call center networks and cyber fraud, as well as with drugs, appointments to public office, salaries, and public tenders.

As a reminder, the government led by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu was approved and sworn in on November 1, 2025. On Friday, July 3, he announced his resignation, stating that he could no longer fulfill his mandate in accordance with his principles and convictions.

UPDATE 5:00 PM

MAN party members will not participate in consultations to propose candidates for the position of prime minister. “The MAN party will not participate in these sham consultations… Why isn’t the leader of the ruling party—the one who distributes the microphones in parliament—taking responsibility for this?” the party’s leader stated.
