As previously noted by the Ministry of Culture, Moldova is focusing its efforts on other partnerships, including in the process of accession to the European Union, “where cooperation in areas such as culture, tourism, youth, sports and science is more relevant and beneficial.”
According to the ministry, Moldova is a participant in the European Union’s Horizon Europe framework program for research and innovation, the Creative Europe program, as well as in the Council of Europe’s extended partial agreement on cultural routes. These instruments offer broader and more consistent support than the CIS agreement.
The draft states that the main argument in favor of denouncing the agreement is “the inefficiency of applying its provisions for the benefit of the Republic of Moldova, especially taking into account the fact that the Republic of Moldova has not received assistance from the Fund for the last 3 years”.
Deputy Speaker Vlad Batrincea made a proposal to remove the draft law from the agenda.
“The Culture Ministry provided the Parliament with misleading information at the first reading stage. In fact, there are a number of realized projects, including the participation of Moldovan representatives in interstate cultural prizes and initiatives within the CIS. We are not talking about politics, but about cultural interaction between the peoples,” Batrincea said.
Nevertheless, the agreement was denounced by 57 votes.
