At the first cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan ordered that specific measures be taken to address the situation surrounding the so-called “exorbitant salaries,” noting that these measures should include, among other things, the elimination of bonuses and the establishment of salary caps.
“I think this is very important. We won’t be able to carry out reforms unless we restore trust. We cannot go out to the people and tell them they need to tighten their belts while we allow abuses in the system. I believe this is a very important starting point,” said Vasile Tofan.
The prime minister also called for a systematic approach moving forward, which will be ensured by the adoption of a new law on wages. “In it, we will address issues of bonuses, pay categories, and who deserves to receive what and for what. But until the law on wages is adopted, I believe it is important to take targeted measures to address this urgent challenge,” emphasized Vasile Tofan.
