The National Agency for Research and Development informs the research community, public authorities, civil society organizations and actors in the field of architecture, urban planning and sustainable development about the launch of the new competitions of the Orizont Europa program, dedicated to the European initiative New European Bauhaus (NEB).
The New European Bauhaus initiative, launched by the European Commission in 2021, aims to transform the approach to the design and development of built spaces and European communities by integrating the values of sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics.
The concept promotes an interdisciplinary approach that brings together architecture, design, research, culture, innovative technologies and citizen participation to create more sustainable, accessible and people-centered spaces.
The Council of the European Union recently adopted a formal recommendation to implement the NEB principles at the European level, encouraging Member States to integrate these values into public policies and national funding mechanisms.
The recommendation emphasizes the importance of sustainable reconstruction, the use of closed-loop materials, active citizen engagement in the transformation of urban and rural spaces, strengthening education and skills in sustainable building, and developing more inclusive and sustainable communities.
In this context, on May 5, 2026, Horizon Europe – NEB 2026 Fund opened a new call for international consortia, research institutes, universities, public authorities, NGOs, SMEs, cultural actors and local communities.
