This was reported by the consultancy firm ExPro.
A total of 29 private gas producers took part in the October auctions. The weighted average sale price was €78.63 per megawatt-hour excluding VAT. Depending on the terms of individual deals, the price ranged from €69 to €90.01 per MWh.
Ukrainian gas is sold at twice the price on the domestic market
According to ExPro’s calculations, the weighted average export price of natural gas in October was €78.63 per MWh.
This is €12.87, or approximately 14.1 per cent, lower than the prices quoted on the Dutch TTF gas hub for next-month deliveries, where the price reached €91.50 per MWh.
However, compared with the Ukrainian market, exports proved to be much more profitable.
ExPro’s domestic prices for November supplies stood at around €37.47 per MWh. Consequently, the export price was 2.1 times higher than the domestic price, with a difference of €41.16 per MWh.
This gap creates additional economic incentives for private producers to sell part of their gas abroad.
At the same time, revenue from exchange sales does not equate to the companies’ net profit, as it does not take into account production costs, transport costs, taxes and other operating expenses.
Moldova has already purchased Ukrainian gas
Among the buyers of Ukrainian natural gas was, in particular, the Moldovan state-owned company Energocom.
The company purchased 2 million cubic metres of gas produced in Ukraine. According to information provided by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, the purchase price was approximately €10 per MWh lower than spot prices on the European TTF hub.
Why Ukraine has resumed gas exports
Private companies were given the opportunity to sell part of their gas production abroad following a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 7 October 2026.
Prior to this, exports of Ukrainian-produced natural gas had remained restricted since the start of the war in 2022.
One of the reasons for the partial reopening of exports was a surplus of gas in the commercial segment of the gas market.
According to industry analysts, gas consumption by Ukrainian industrial enterprises has almost halved since the start of the full-scale war, whilst private producers have continued to maintain relatively stable production volumes.
The new mechanism allows private companies to sell a limited portion of their gas production abroad through specialised auctions. However, export operations remain under state control, and companies must adhere to certain limits.
How much gas can be sold in November
According to preliminary forecasts by ExPro, the next round of specialised export auctions may take place in the second half of November.
It is expected that private gas producers may offer foreign buyers around 55 million cubic metres of natural gas.
Actual sales volumes will depend on demand, price offers, government restrictions and the granting of the necessary permits.
Prime Minister Tofan stated that Moldova expects to purchase 500 million cubic metres of gas from Ukraine over the course of the year – this is precisely the amount the country needs to meet its demand for natural gas on the regulated market.
