Trump promises US will ‘eliminate’ any Iranian ships violating blockade

U.S. President Donald Trump warned that any Iranian vessels that violated a U.S. naval blockade imposed on Monday would be "immediately destroyed", escalating tensions amid a fragile truce after Pakistan-brokered talks failed to produce a peace deal on the Iranian conflict.

US President Donald Trump warned on Monday that any Iranian gunboats approaching the US naval blockade of Iranian ports would be destroyed despite international calls for a ceasefire and the resumption of talks, france24.com wrote.

The US military said the blockade, which came into effect at 14:00 GMT, applies to all vessels leaving or seeking to enter Iranian ports.

In a social media post, Trump said the bulk of the Iranian navy had already been destroyed during the war, but if any of what he said were Tehran’s remaining “fast attack boats” approached the blockade, “they will be destroyed immediately.”

He also said 34 ships had passed through the strait on Sunday, adding that it was the highest number since the war began, although that figure could not be immediately confirmed. Trump announced the blockade on Sunday after a delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance returned from a meeting with Iranian officials in Pakistan without reaching an agreement to end the war, which began Feb. 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran.
