“Iran’s leadership is showing incredible hypocrisy! They themselves are asking for a meeting—some would even say they are ‘begging’ for negotiations. The negotiations have begun, and new rounds are scheduled for the near future. But at the same time, they openly and proudly declare that they are not engaged in any discussions, that nothing is being discussed, and that they are dealing only with Oman,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, according to the BBC.
Earlier on Monday, while aboard Air Force One, he told reporters that new talks with Iran would begin on Monday, after he had, in his words, called off “massive” strikes against the country.
However, Iran responded by stating that there are no agreements to resume negotiations between it and the U.S., and declared that it is engaging in dialogue only with Oman on issues of safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that these talks are unrelated to the question of whether the Strait of Hormuz is “open or closed.”
According to sources in the shipping industry, there is currently some ship traffic along a route passing near the coast of Oman.
“Then, as usual, they start saying that the Strait of Hormuz will be under their reliable control. Although in reality it is already fully controlled by the U.S. Navy and our ‘blockade,’ or, as some call it, the ‘Steel Wall of the United States,’ Trump continued in his post.
“Nothing gets into Iran unless we want it to. And nothing will get there until a deal is struck or until there is complete surrender. Whether Iran admits it or not, we are indeed discussing a solution to the problem that it itself has been creating for decades. It’s very simple: IRAN WILL NEVER GET NUCLEAR WEAPONS!” the U.S. president’s statement also reads.
