According to the Financial Times, Donald Trump stated that he had not yet decided whether he would allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles, thereby casting doubt on whether Washington would agree to one of Kyiv’s top priorities.
The FT notes that Trump said he was “not sure” whether Washington would grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot missiles, adding that “we are considering the matter.”
“This is an extremely powerful weapon, and… we have to be somewhat cautious about whom we grant a license to. We don’t actually issue licenses for equipment,” Trump said.
Trump made these comments just two days after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. Zelensky, for his part, called the meeting “successful” and noted that the leaders of the two countries discussed “the production of Patriot interceptors and several other ideas.”
