Inga Ruginene, Prime Minister of Lithuania
This message has been sent to the U.S. administration, according to media reports citing Politico, which cites a high-ranking official from one of the Baltic republics.
The official explained that the parliaments of the region’s countries have already approved a broad mandate to participate in any operations in the Strait of Hormuz, provided they are organized by the United States of America.
At the same time, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė clarifies that “there have been no discussions so far.”
“We have not received any requests, but last week I met with the prime ministers of the Baltic states (…), and all three of us agreed that if such a request is made, we will certainly consider it very seriously. This is the common position of the Baltic states,” the Lithuanian portal Delfi.lt quotes Ruginienė as saying.
At the same time, America’s other European partners are in no hurry to join Washington’s initiative for joint patrols of the Strait of Hormuz. They are waiting for confirmation that the ceasefire in the conflict with Iran will be sustainable.
