Vasile Tofan
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan accused MP Vasile Costiuc of spreading false information about the transit of Ukrainian grain through the Giurgiulești International Free Port and of, through the footage filmed there, exposing the Republic of Moldova’s critical export infrastructure to risk. The Prime Minister rejected the allegations regarding the transhipment and processing of Ukrainian grain at the port, maintaining that it is merely transiting the country on its way to ports in Romania.
According to him, no Ukrainian grain is transhipped at the port, and sunflower seeds from Ukraine do not enter the Republic of Moldova to be processed into oil. At the same time, Tofan explained that the railway wagons filmed by Costiuc are on a transit railway route, which passes through several towns in the Republic of Moldova and continues on to Romanian ports.
Tofan also accused the MP of the fact that filming the port infrastructure and making insinuations about the re-export of Ukrainian grain could provide Russia with sensitive information about the Republic of Moldova’s export infrastructure on the Danube.
“I understand that you have parliamentary immunity and are using it as a shield, but do you really not understand, do you lack even the basic judgement to realise that, by entering with a camera and showing everything that is happening in the port and insinuating that Ukrainian grain is being re-exported, you are handing all this critical information to the Russians on a plate and, in fact, putting our export infrastructure on the Danube at great risk?”, stated the Prime Minister.
For his part, PAS MP Radu Marian claimed that Vasile Costiuc had entered the port illegally, filmed without authorisation and denigrated Romania, the strategic investor in the Giurgiulești International Free Port. Marian called for the law enforcement agencies to intervene.
“Costiuc, to do all that in a single video, you must really hate your country. It is absolutely essential that the law enforcement agencies look into this case and ensure compliance with the law,” said the PAS MP.
We recall that MPs from “Democrația Acasă” filmed several train carriages in the Giurgiulești port area, claiming that they were carrying Ukrainian grain for processing in the Republic of Moldova and that local farmers’ sunflower crops were left unsold. In response, the Government rejected the allegations, stating that the Ukrainian grain is merely transiting the country en route to the ports of Galați and Constanța, and that the 5,500 tonnes of sunflower seeds captured on camera are of Moldovan origin and intended for export.
