The Forța Fermierilor Association announced a protest action

Forța Fermierilor, an association of grain and oilseed agricultural producers, announces a precautionary protest in front of the Moldovan government on May 27, 2026. The Association's Council decided that the Moldovan authorities "have not taken effective measures to rescue micro, small and medium-sized agricultural producers affected by the crises of the last few years".

The decision was made at the meeting of the Association Council held on May 15, 2026, where the progress of the applications previously sent to the country’s leadership in an open letter of April 27 was analyzed. The activists of the organization came to the conclusion that, despite the promises of the authorities, farmers “have only heard about help from statements of high-ranking officials in the media”, but have not received concrete (or, one must assume) sufficient support so far. The vast majority of farmers “still face serious financial difficulties, including rising fuel and fertilizer prices”.

The Forța Fermierilor administration also criticizes the Ministry of Finance’s intention to raise VAT on agricultural products to 20%, as well as the fact that the grain and oilseed sectors have been ignored in the Strategic Plan for Agricultural Policy (PSPA).

“A very dangerous model of agriculture is proposed, which promotes the expansion of transnational companies, contradicts European practices and represents a socio-economic threat for Moldova,” the representatives of the organization believe.

Tentatively, Forța Fermierilor will hold several with farmers at the district level between May 18 and 24. However, apparently, this will not affect the plans to hold at least a warning protest action on the specified day, in a certain place.

Among the main demands of the association are the provision of urgent financial support to small and medium-sized farmers, full refund of excise tax on diesel fuel used in agriculture, partial refund of VAT on diesel fuel and fertilizers, maintaining the current VAT rate on agricultural products and the introduction of direct payments per hectare of cereals and oilseeds on the model of the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union.
