“I am firmly convinced that, after three decades as a full member of the Council of Europe, the results we have achieved and the path we have traveled have laid the groundwork for a new phase of cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe within the framework of the post-monitoring dialogue,” Lăpușneanu said upon the start of his term in Strasbourg.
Victor Lăpușneanu noted that the team at the Mission of the Republic of Moldova will work toward achieving the country’s goals in the process of European integration, counting on the support and expert assistance of the Council of Europe’s institutions.
It should be noted that the Republic of Moldova joined the Council of Europe on July 13, 1995. Since that year, the country has been subject to the PACE monitoring procedure. The monitoring procedure involves a regular assessment of the state’s fulfillment of its obligations in the areas of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, including the functioning of the judicial system, the conduct of elections, the fight against corruption, and freedom of the media.
