The training took place from August 12 to 14, 2026, and was organized by UNICEF Moldova in collaboration with the Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research as part of the preparations for the program’s launch.

The program is designed for children who need to fill gaps in their education and return to the formal education system.

Over the course of three days, teachers familiarized themselves with the program’s organizational principles, developed lesson plans, and learned about the use of formative assessment and tools for monitoring student progress.

Education Plus Social Support

Special attention was given during the training to providing psychosocial support for children, creating a safe and inclusive educational environment, and preparing students for the transition from the accelerated education program to the formal education system.

“It is important that every child, regardless of their social status, ethnicity, or experience with migration or displacement, has the opportunity to fill gaps in their knowledge, receive individualized support, and subsequently return to the formal education system,” said Ivan Duminica, head of the Interethnic Relations Policy Service at the Ministry of Education and Research.

The program focuses on developing communication and literacy skills, as well as instruction in mathematics and the language of instruction, including Romanian. It also provides for an individualized approach to each child.

A separate component is dedicated to engaging with parents, whom the program aims to involve more actively in the educational process and in supporting their children as they catch up on their studies and reenter the education system.

In the first phase, the Accelerated Education Program will be piloted in seven schools in Moldova that were previously identified by the Ministry of Education and Research.

Training for teachers was organized as part of the project “Strengthening Moldova’s Education System for the Most Vulnerable Children.” The project is funded by the EU, co-funded and implemented by UNICEF Moldova and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Moldova.
