In a comment to Logos Press, Ion Maxim, director of the National Association of Beekeepers (ANARM), noted that the price of acacia honey has varied by quality since the start of the season. Traders pay a price above the base rate for honey containing at least 15% acacia pollen. Meanwhile, most of the acacia honey offered for purchase contains, on average, about 5% acacia pollen. However, at this point, this significant factor is not the main one.
“It is still too early to say that the ‘working’ wholesale price for new-crop acacia honey has already been established, even though there is already a supply of this product,” says Ion Maxim. “Demand for Moldovan honey—even high-value acacia honey—remains low in the European Union market. The main reason is a good acacia honey harvest in Romania, Hungary, and some other countries. Accordingly, until the European market ‘consumes’ a large share of its own acacia honey, there will be no high demand for this product from countries outside the EU. Consequently, a more or less reliable indication of the range of purchase prices for acacia honey in Moldova will emerge toward the end of the last ten-day period of August, and the “working” price will become clear closer to mid-September.
The volumes of acacia honey that traders are currently purchasing at a low price —80 lei/kg on average—serve as their “safety net” and a reserve in case external partners unexpectedly (earlier than usual) make attractive offers to purchase honey from the new harvest.”
Logos Press previously reported that, according to preliminary estimates, the acacia honey harvest in Moldova in 2026 amounted to 60–70% of the long-term average. In total, Moldovan beekeepers expect to harvest at least 5,000 metric tons of marketable honey this year.
