“We requested an urgent meeting with Mr. Tofan to discuss the situation in the domestic grain and oilseed market, specifically issues related to the collapse of purchase prices and the need to introduce import licensing and a transit mechanism for products from Ukraine. Unfortunately, the prime minister agreed to meet only with the executive director, which, in the organization’s view, is the wrong approach. The association is governed in the most democratic manner—by an administrative council headed by the president. All members of the council are farmers. It is not right for farmers’ issues to be discussed without their participation. We tried to secure a different format for the discussion, such as a public meeting with the participation of council members. We regret that the prime minister rejected this idea,” according to a statement from “Forța Fermierilor.”
However, according to the organization’s administration, “even under these circumstances, the council has decided to remain constructive and seize every opportunity for dialogue. This is all the more important given the need to resolve a strategic issue related to the authorities’ intention to raise the VAT rate on agri-food products by 50%.
