The minister’s remarks came after education workers’ unions announced their intention to protest starting September 1 if the teachers’ demands are not met.
She specified that the pay raise would range from 10% to 30%, noting that this would be enshrined in the new Law on a Unified Pay System in the Public Sector. At the same time, Belous explained that the law cannot be adopted before September 1.
The draft bill can be submitted to the government only after the budget and tax policy has been approved. Only then will the authorities be able to determine projected revenues and the availability of funds in the budget to cover the costs of the pay raises.
Another clarification concerns the structure of salaries. “We are trying to reduce variable components and ensure that the base salary in the public sector will increase,” explained Victoria Belous. Some allowances may be retained to motivate employees.
Logos Press previously reported that the authorities have not yet decided on a pay raise for teachers or on the date it will take effect. Minister of Education and Research Dan Perchun stated in this regard that several options are being considered.
