The investments are aimed at modernising the courtyards of blocks of flats, reconstructing roads, expanding water supply and sewerage networks, repairing public buildings and developing recreational areas.
The figures were presented today by Minister Vladimir Bolea at a press conference on state investment in the capital.
One of the most ambitious initiatives is the ‘European Courtyard’ programme, under which 469 projects to modernise the courtyards of blocks of flats have been approved, totalling 2.3 billion lei. Currently, 38 courtyards have been modernised, a further 32 are at the planning stage, and work on 18 is about to begin. The works include the reconstruction of pavements and access roads, as well as the creation of children’s play areas, green spaces and recreational areas. The first batch of 88 courtyards is due to be completed by the end of November.
Investment is also reaching the capital’s suburbs. Through the Chisinau Regional Development Agency, 12 infrastructure and regional projects are being implemented with a total value of over 273 million lei, of which 237 million is a government contribution. These include the expansion of sewerage networks in Ghidigich, Bețoi, Budești and other settlements; the modernisation of access roads in Truseni and Bubuieci; the construction of a sports hall with a swimming pool in Budești; and the restoration of the historic Zemstvo building in Chișinău.
A further 82 local development projects, supported by state programmes, are being funded from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development to the tune of over 334 million lei. These projects focus on water supply and sewerage, the refurbishment of public facilities, the modernisation of local roads, and the development of sports and recreational areas. At the same time, the programme for the development of state-run childcare services is supporting 37 projects with state investment totalling over 93 million lei.
Road infrastructure
Investments in road infrastructure complement local and regional development projects. Between 2021 and the present, several major works have been completed on national roads around Chișinău.
One of these is the reconstruction of a 6.5 km section of the capital’s ring road, carried out with financial support from the European Investment Bank amounting to 9.9 million euros. To continue the development of the ring road, an 18-km section has been included in the 2027 procurement plan, whilst a feasibility study is being carried out for the remaining 50 km.
In July 2025, work was completed on the reconstruction of bridges and flyovers in the Prunkul area, on the outskirts of the Sculeț sector, including the access road to Pietreria Street, at a cost of 190.4 million lei.
At the same time, in April 2024, repairs were completed on the Krikov overpass, situated on the M5 national road, which connects the border with Ukraine, Kriva, Bălți, Chișinău and Tiraspol. The cost of the works amounted to 39.6 million lei.
Investments in the capital’s infrastructure are aimed at improving living conditions, expanding access to public services and developing more closely connected communities both in the city and in the suburbs.
