The event was attended by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, as well as guests of honor: former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep and US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro.
In his speech, the prime minister said that the inauguration of the center is a landmark event for Moldovan sports and a clear signal that it is possible to achieve great successes at home, if a modern infrastructure is created to meet the strict international standards.
“This is the place where character, discipline, ambition and high results will be formed. For years, many talented young people had to go abroad to get access to good courts, competitions and professional training. Today, we prove that Moldova can also have conditions of international level,” Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of investments in the sports sector, recalling that sport is, first of all, health, education, firmness and social cohesion.
“Perhaps, today we are opening just tennis courts. In fact, we are opening new opportunities,” Alexandru Munteanu said.
The infrastructure of the new National Tennis Center will allow Moldova to host tournaments of the highest rank. In particular, the prestigious tournament Moldova Open from the ATP Challenger 100 category will be held here, and in the period from June 10 to 13, 2026, the Davis Cup Europe Group III matches will be held on the courts of the center.
