Together with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the British Prime Minister will co-chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Resolute, which brings together countries supporting Kyiv.
The meeting will take place in a hybrid format: some participants will travel to Kyiv in person, while others will join via video conference. The office of the Irish Prime Minister has announced that he will participate in the meeting remotely.
A total of about ten participants will gather in the Ukrainian capital, including European Council President António Costa. The meeting coincides with the celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day, which is observed today, August 24.
The main goal of the coalition of volunteers remains ending the war. Monday’s meeting will provide an opportunity to “continue work on security guarantees to help establish a just, lasting, and long-term peace in Ukraine,” Euronews quoted a statement from the Élysée Palace as saying.
As part of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict, the Europeans have proposed ways to ensure the security of Ukrainian territory, including the deployment of a multinational force and mechanisms to monitor a potential ceasefire.
