The Government has approved a draft law on promoting the development of environmentally friendly road transport to support low-emission mobility.
The draft aims to reduce fossil fuel consumption and transport emissions, as well as to encourage the renewal of the vehicle fleet with less polluting models. To this end, minimum targets have been set for the share of environmentally friendly vehicles in the total number of cars purchased in the country over the five-year reporting period:
– 13.5 per cent for passenger cars;
– 5 per cent for heavy goods vehicles;
– 23 per cent for buses.
The targets have been calculated in accordance with the European Commission’s methodology, taking into account per capita GDP and the proportion of the population living in urban areas.
The draft transposes European provisions on promoting the development of environmentally friendly road transport into national legislation and forms part of the measures set out in the National Programme for the Republic of Moldova’s Accession to the European Union for 2025–2029.
