As a reminder, the reform to gradually harmonize the retirement age began on July 1, 2017, and is being implemented in accordance with the approved schedule.
For men, the retirement age has already reached its peak—it is 63 years and will remain unchanged. For women, the retirement age is increasing in stages:
It is currently 61 years and 6 months;
as of July 1, 2026, it will increase to 61 years and 6 months;
as of July 1, 2027, it will increase to 62 years;
by July 1, 2028, it will be equal to that for men and reach 63 years.

Moldovan authorities recognize the need to adapt social policy and the pension system to the realities of an aging population. Earlier, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru stated that targeted interventions in the social sector are necessary to ensure its financial sustainability. However, according to the minister, the government does not plan to make any changes to the current mechanism for gradually raising the retirement age.
Today, there are 1.2 working citizens for every pensioner in Moldova.
