Popescu, a 12th-grade student, had also won a silver medal earlier in August at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Astana. He won another silver medal in July at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Shanghai.
At the Informatics Olympiad, Moldova won two medals: a silver for Alin Popescu and a bronze for his classmate Alexei Baca, a 10th-grade student. A total of 375 students from 92 countries participated in the competition.
