“101st place is a warning sign” — Verșinin on Moldova’s drop in the GIRRI ranking

The Republic of Moldova’s ranking in the Global Investment Risk and Resilience Index (GIRRI) raises questions about the effectiveness of reforms and how investors perceive the country. This was stated by MP Alexandru Verșinin, a member of the Foreign Policy Committee

The lawmaker points out that, in just one year, the Republic of Moldova has fallen in the global ranking from 82nd to 101st place.

“Every day we hear talk of ‘stability,’ ‘partner confidence,’ ‘reforms,’ and how Moldova is becoming increasingly attractive to investors. However, the reality, as measured from the outside, tells a different story,” Verșinin said.

The lawmaker noted that investors make decisions based on their trust in state institutions and the country’s economic prospects.

“The economy does not grow thanks to political applause, talk about the parsley we import from China, or triumphant announcements about a 50 percent discount on our neighbors’ grain. It grows thanks to predictable rules, a trustworthy justice system, effective institutions, protection of property rights, and the confidence of those willing to invest their money here. Ranking 101st is not a victory for Europe. “This is a warning sign,” the lawmaker noted.

As a reminder, according to GIRRI data, the Republic of Moldova’s investment attractiveness fell by 19 positions over the course of the year. As a result, the country ranked 101st in the global ranking compiled by Henley & Partners as of May 2026.
