The bill will be considered at the next government meeting. Once the law is passed by parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the CIS Executive Committee of the denunciation of the agreement and the protocol.
As Logos Press has previously reported, the agreement governs the physical exchange of publications between the documentary collections of the national libraries of CIS member states. The proposal to denounce the agreement was submitted by the Ministry of Culture, which asserts that most exchanges and mechanisms for library cooperation currently take place in digital format, while the system provided for by the agreement entails high costs for the international shipment of physical publications.
Earlier, Moldovan authorities also decided to terminate cooperation with the CIS in the areas of book publishing, book distribution, and printing.
