Alin Popescu, a 12th-grade student, won the silver medal. Octavian Harcel, a 12th-grade student, and Ion Pavelescu, an 11th-grade student, won bronze medals. All three represented the “Orizont” Lyceum in Durlești, Chișinău municipality.
The Olympiad participants competed in tasks related to artificial intelligence. The competition took place from August 2 to 8 in the capital of Kazakhstan.
The Moldovan team was led by Sergiu Corlat, a doctor and professor at the State University of Moldova.
Last year, the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad was held in Beijing.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, personally attended the opening ceremony of this year’s Olympiad.
“Your knowledge and ideas may one day form the basis for breakthrough solutions in medicine, education, environmental protection, and many other areas of vital importance. Perhaps it is right here, at this Olympiad, that new ideas and projects will begin to take shape, destined to change the world for the better,” Tokayev said, addressing the participants.
