
According to Kimpian’s report, the Ukrainian parliamentarians expressed their gratitude for Romania’s solidarity and touched upon “the specific problems Ukraine is currently facing, emphasizing the importance of addressing the humanitarian, demographic and structural-reform challenges caused by the Russian aggression.”
“Against the background of political unity in Kiev regarding the opening of cluster accession talks, Ukrainian officials strongly expressed their opposition to any separation from Moldova’s European path and emphasized the need for concrete international measures and tough sanctions against the Russian Federation”, the statement said.
To Chisinau via Bucharest
It is worth noting that after the visit to Bucharest, the Ukrainian delegation will visit Moldova on June 4-5. The Verkhovna Rada presents this visit as part of one trip.
“The purpose of the visit of the Committee delegation is to deepen the dialog with Romanian and Moldovan parliamentarians on strengthening cooperation in the political, informational, cultural, humanitarian and security sectors, as well as coordination of efforts in the context of European integration of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova,” the Verkhovna Rada communiqué said.
The delegation also includes MPs Maryana Bezuglaya, Iryna Herashchenko and Mariya Ionova.
Parliament’s agenda “shifted”
The press service of the Moldovan parliament reports that the Ukrainian MPs will hold meetings with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, as well as with the deputy speaker of the legislative body and the chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Commission, Doina Gherman. The agenda also includes discussions with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Kristina Gerasimov and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Karolina Perebinos. The discussions will be aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova, including interaction in the context of the European integration process.
On Thursday, June 4, at 11:45 a.m., Foreign Policy Commission Chairwoman Doina Herman and her Ukrainian counterpart Oleksandr Merezhko will make press statements.
It should also be noted that the plenary session, which usually starts at 10:00, has been postponed to 12:00 this time.
