President Maia Sandu “strongly condemned the Russian drone attacks that hit Romanians in their own homes.”

“The Republic of Moldova stands in full solidarity with Romania and wishes a speedy recovery to the victims in Galati. Russia is a threat to everyone and must be stopped,” President Maia Sandu wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu also “condemned in the strongest possible terms the Russian drone attack on the Romanian city of Galati.”

“This is a serious and unacceptable act. Russia launched a direct strike on the territory of Romania – our neighbor, a friend of Moldova and a close partner of our citizens. This attack reminds us once again that war is close. It is at our borders, it is taking human lives and threatening the security of all of Europe. Russia does not bring peace, stability or security. Russia brings fear, destruction and suffering. We express our full solidarity with Romania, the Romanian authorities and the people of Galati. Our thoughts are with those who have suffered. We wish them a speedy recovery and strength,” Grosu noted on his Facebook page.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that “this incident, which took place in close proximity to Moldova’s border, serves as a clear reminder that the risks created by Russia’s war are real and remain dangerously close to our region.”

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the irresponsible actions that led to a Russian drone hitting an apartment building in Galati. Our thoughts are with the victims and we stand in solidarity with Romania,” the prime minister added on social network X.

According to Romanian authorities, a Russian drone landed on a residential house in the Romanian city of Galati on Thursday night. The impact was followed by an explosion, after which a fire broke out in an apartment on the 10th floor.
