Iceland, Luxembourg, Australia, Germany, Ireland, USA, Denmark, Norway and Spain were also in the top ten.
According to Prian, the authors of the ranking analyzed income levels, the situation on the labor market, access to health care, security, the environment, transportation and the development of immigrant communities. Visa requirements were not included, which allows comparing living conditions rather than migration barriers.
Why Switzerland is the leader
Switzerland ranked first because of its combination of high wages, stable economy, advanced medicine and low crime rate. Strong integration of immigrants and a developed labor market are separately noted.
Iceland and Luxembourg ranked high due to their high quality of life with small populations and stable social systems.
Different migration “scenarios”
The report emphasizes that there is no one-size-fits-all destination for relocation.
In some categories, the leaders are: for families – Spain, China and the USA; for the size of diasporas – UAE, Kuwait and Luxembourg; for the level of “population happiness” (in terms of social trust and security, population culture and work-rest balance) – Finland, Denmark and Iceland; for security – Singapore, Iceland and Switzerland.
Remitly researchers note that the choice of country depends on migrants’ priorities – income, security, social environment or quality of life, so different rankings give different leaders.
