sowing

According to the operational data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry MAIA, sunflower for the harvest-2026 in the country is occupied in the range from 430 thousand hectares (pessimistic estimate) to 450 thousand hectares (optimistic estimate). At the moment sowing of sunflower is completed. That is, in fact, the starting situation will not change dramatically. Last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, the area under sunflower at the beginning of July amounted to 414 thousand hectares.

The sowing of corn has not been completed yet. However, according to the Ministry’s employees, the forecast is generally positive. The reasons: firstly, good moisture reserves in the sowing layer of soil and relatively good weather conditions at the final stage of the sowing campaign; secondly, good price situation at the end of the current and moderately optimistic price forecast for the beginning of the new marketing season. Taking into account this background, the projected area of grain corn sown in Moldova for the harvest-2026 will be 420-430 thousand hectares (last year, according to statistical data at the beginning of summer – 414,7 thousand hectares).
