Forecast: Moldova’s 2026 wheat harvest will not be lower than last year’s crop

The area of winter crops for harvest-2026 in Moldova has decreased compared to the corresponding indicator of the previous agricultural season, but grain production may remain at last year's level.

This was reported by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry MAIA Vasile Charban in an interview for Logos Press. According to the ministerial assessment, this year, the generally good condition of winter wheat crops, occupying about 353 thousand hectares, allows hoping for a harvest of 1.5 million tons of this grain. For comparison, last season wheat sowing in the country according to statistical data was about 387 thousand hectares, its gross harvest – 1.59 million tons.

MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry estimates winter rape sowing for this year’s harvest at 95 thousand hectares, winter barley – 48 thousand hectares. This is several thousand hectares less than in the previous season for both positions.
