At the same time, some private analytical firms are issuing an even more pessimistic forecast for the current marketing year. For example, Argus forecasts a decline in EU corn production to 46.9 million metric tons. The reason is obvious: a prolonged drought.
The downward revision of the potential corn harvest applies to all countries—the largest producers of this grain in the EU. In particular, the current forecast for Romania has been lowered to 6.84 million metric tons, which is significantly below the long-term average of 8.18 million metric tons. Nevertheless, as Agrointelegența reports, in Romania’s case, the downward revision of the European Commission’s forecast is less severe compared to the general trend of declining production figures in the grain sector.
