Investment Comeback: A Shift Toward an Upward Trend

Investment activity showed a positive trend reversal in the second quarter of 2026. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), investment in Moldova’s long-term assets rose by 5.2% in the first half of the year. The data released today is diametrically opposed to the NBS figures reported at the end of the first quarter of this year, when investment activity in the country recorded a 2.4% decline.

Statistics showed a sharp shift in economic trends in the second quarter of 2026. However, the market recovery in the spring and early summer not only fully offset the winter decline but also pushed the half-year figures firmly into the “green zone,” with overall growth of 5.2%.

This growth was driven by increased investment in tangible assets (up 7.4%), particularly in:

  • residential buildings—up 3.3%,
  • non-residential buildings—by 37.5%,
  • engineering structures—by 1.2%,
  • machinery and equipment—by 0.5%,
  • transportation—by 1.0%,
  • other tangible assets—by 16.9%.

At the same time, intangible assets, which account for about 4.4% of total fixed asset investments, decreased by approximately 27.2%.
