In July, Romania recorded the highest annual inflation rate in the EU

According to Eurostat data released on Wednesday, Romania recorded the highest annual inflation rate among EU member states in July—8.2 percent—as measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

This is lower than the 10.42% recorded in June. Despite this being the first significant slowdown in a long time, the figure remained above analysts’ forecasts (who had expected 7.9%).

Services were the main driver, with prices rising 13.67%. Non-food goods rose in price by 7.93% (a sharp slowdown from 12.3% in June, mainly due to the stabilization of energy prices).Food prices: price growth slowed to 5.03%.

The annual inflation rate in the EU in July was 3%. In the eurozone, this figure stood at 2.9% in July, compared to 2.8% in June. A year earlier, it was 2.0%.
