The decision was adopted at the XLVI regular session of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, which was attended by 22 deputies.
The issue of declaring the office of Head of Gagauzia vacant and setting a date for the election was considered as a separate item on the session’s agenda.
Following the discussion, the deputies confirmed that the position of Bashkan had become vacant due to the court’s guilty verdict against the head of the autonomous region becoming legally binding.
However, no decision was made to set an election date, as the relevant proposal did not receive the necessary majority of deputies’ votes.
Deputies reviewed the budget, the work of the Central Election Commission, and other issues
In addition to the issue of the vacant Bashkan position, the People’s Assembly adopted a number of other decisions.
Deputies approved the report on the execution of Gagauzia’s budget for the first half of 2026. A law was also adopted interpreting certain provisions of the 2025 budget law for the autonomous region.
A separate resolution concerned the funding of the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia. The People’s Assembly repealed a clause of the resolution dated January 12, 2026, which had allocated 1.7 million lei for the maintenance of the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia.
It was decided to restore these funds to the People’s Assembly’s reserve fund. At the same time, the Gagauzia Chamber of Accounts was tasked with verifying the correctness of the calculation and allocation of funds intended to settle the Central Election Commission’s debts.
In addition, deputies approved a change in the designated use and procedure for utilizing a 2-hectare plot of land in the municipality of Comrat, and also approved the allocation of funds from the central budget component among the autonomy’s public general education institutions for 2026.
The session also adopted amendments to the rules of procedure of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.
The issues scheduled for discussion during the “Executive Committee Hour” were not considered due to the absence of representatives from the Gagauzia Executive Committee. They left the session at the very beginning.
