The European traffic data shows that air traffic volume in Moldova is currently about 60–70% higher than during the same period last year. At that time, the figure was around 60–70 flights per day. This year, in July and August, according to EUROCONTROL data, traffic frequently reached 150–180 flights per day.

This volume of traffic has long outstripped the capacity of Chisinau International Airport’s infrastructure. As a result, travelers now have to arrive not two hours before departure, as in previous years, but three to four hours in advance—especially for night and morning flights.

Currently, the Evgheni Doga Chisinau International Airport is undergoing a large-scale modernization project costing approximately 180 million lei to increase the terminal’s capacity by 20% and upgrade security systems by early 2027, with further plans to adapt the infrastructure to accommodate a growing passenger flow of up to 6 million people. However, as experience shows, this work should have been carried out much earlier—at least last year.
