In accordance with a previously adopted government decision, students in medical programs will receive the largest scholarships.
The parliamentary opposition believes that even after the increase, the scholarship amount is insufficient for students. Alla Ursu-Antoc, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sports, and the Media, stated that more investment is needed for students.
“A lot has been invested in walls and plaster, but not in educational processes. That is the problem—teachers and educational processes. I have introduced a legislative initiative to set the student scholarship at 5,000 lei. I presented arguments as to why it should be 5,000 lei. We are in the opposition; we are not in power, and we received a negative response from the government. We were told that there is no money,” the MP said at a meeting with representatives of the League of Students from the Republic of Moldova.
It should be noted that in Moldovan universities the the application period has ended. Now, applicants must submit their original documents—this can be done until August 12. The final admission results will be announced on August 14. An additional admission session will be held from August 15 to 24 to fill the remaining vacancies.
Tuition for contract-based programs at Moldovan universities ranges from 15,500 to 70,000 lei per year, depending on the university and field of study. State universities have offered 9,013 state-funded spots this year.
