This was the candidate’s response to a question from Socialist Dorin Pavaloi about the prime minister’s first steps in office in light of the current situation in the agricultural sector: whether there would be a return to the policy of refunding excise taxes and VAT on fuel, as well as addressing other pressing issues facing local producers vying for shelf space in local retail stores.
Considering himself deeply involved in this field, Vasile Tofan described himself as more of a farmer, “although many consider me a man of the business world,” and spoke about the upcoming structural reforms in the sector, “which won’t happen overnight, but will yield results quite different from farmers blocking customs checkpoints—though their actions are also understandable.”
The candidate sees the solution in irrigation, modern technologies, risk insurance, and other ways to modernize agricultural production. As for former Minister Lyudmila Catlabuga, the prime minister wished her success in finding a new role where she can apply her knowledge and expertise.
