“We have very little trade exchange. Both countries are on the path of European integration, and this is extremely positive. In this situation, it is advisable to launch a free trade zone. I hope that after some time we will reach a common understanding,” Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia Oleksandr Lytvynenko said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
According to him, the most promising sectors for the development of trade between the countries could be agricultural machinery. “There are also simpler things that I think we need to do. Ethnics, all kinds of handicraft things are very popular here. There is such an ‘Ethno-Network’ here, which is patronized by President Aleksandar Vucic. Why don’t we try to sell our souvenirs, the same embroideries that the Serbs have in another form?”, – the ambassador believes. He noted that the lion’s share of economic ties between the USSR and Yugoslavia in the 1960s and 1980s “are actually ties with Ukraine, and Serbs are not aware of that, and there is a lot of that.”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated the need for negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement with Ukraine back in 2018.
